Frequently Asked Questions

We've compiled our most common questions.

General

Do you guys ship to the States?

Yes, but there are limitations. Unfortunately, we cannot ship Exhaust or EGR components to the United States anymore due to EPA regulations. However, we can still send tuning and anything else you may be after.

Where do I send my core?

Please follow the core return instructions which can be found here

When will my core deposit be refunded?

Upon your cores arriving here at the shop, we will do a quick inspection and if everything looks good we will immediately refund your core deposit.

How long does it take to ship my product?

Most customers will see their parts within 2-3 business days. We will primarily ship with Purolator ground to ensure the fastest shipping possible.

Please Note: These are only estimates and shipping time may vary depending on your location.

Is everything in stock on your website?

No. Although we try to keep as much as we can in stock here at the shop, we sometimes will still have to bring parts in.

Also, products that require custom powder coating will require a longer lead time.

What is the return policy?

How do I become a dealer?

If you're looking to get set up as a dealer, you'll just need to submit an application! To get started, Click Here for the application form. Once you submit it, we will review and approve the application and you’ll get an email prompting you to finish making your account and set up a password.

Once your account is created you will be able to access the site from https://www.dirtydieselcustom.ca/account/login and you’ll be able to see most products at your wholesale price. The layout is a little different than the public site but it will work the same for the most part. We are still in the beta testing stages so please let us know if you have any questions or run into any issues.

When you submit an order, we’ll review it and add shipping to the order. From there you’ll have two payment options: We can store your card on file and run it automatically on our end. We can send you a final invoice for payment. Just let us know what you prefer and we can accommodate. With both options, you’ll get an emailed receipt with your tracking information.

Is Financing available?

Where do I apply for Financing?

Affirm Financing can be found in the Payment tab during the checkout process. To learn more about Affirm Financing, Click Here.

Is there a restocking fee on refunds?

Yes, there is a 5% restocking fee on all refunds.

Will the price switch to USD during checkout?

No, the price will remain in CAD during the entire checkout process. However, your bank will automatically take care of the conversion if necessary.

What temperature is safe for my transmission?

As a rule of thumb, the ideal operating temperature is around 100° Fahrenheit above the ambient temperature (if it is 90°F outside, then 190°F Transmission Temperature is totally fine).

However, if you see 240°F you do NOT want to push the truck any further because this is the temperature where ATF begins to break down.

Open Vs Closed Intakes

With the Open styled intake kits, you're going to hear the turbo a lot more when compared to a closed intake (even with Emissions intact). However, the open filter will get dirtier sooner, and it will also be exposed to engine heat and suck in the warm air.

The Box styled intake kits come in a fully enclosed airbox that prevents the engine heat from being sucked in, while the small openings will redirect fresh cold air from the outside of the vehicle into your intake. This fully enclosed airbox will also protect the filter from dirt, therefore giving a longer lifespan on each filter between cleaning/replacement.

How do I get EFI unlock codes?

If you have an Autocal, you'll need to contact the tuner who wrote your original tunes, they will supply you with an unlock code to unlink the AutoCal from their programming first.

If they are unable to provide you the codes, you can reach out directly to EFI Live and request an unlock code.

Click here to contact EFI Live.

Once you have the unlink codes, we can set you up with some new custom tuning that can accommodate any modifications your truck may have.

Can you provide CSP5 SOTF Installation Instructions?

If I already have a Tuner, can I purchase the tunes separately?

Yes! From the menu, navigate to your Vehicles Year/Make/Model, then down to Tuning & Electronics, and click on Tune Files.

Can a tuner damage my engine?

In all of our experience, a tuner will not cause engine damage. With that being said, if your truck currently has a faulty part and you start to demand more from that faulty part, it could speed up the process of a failure.

Which Tune is a tow tune?

Typically, a tow tune is classified as a 45hp tune, a heavy-haul tow tune is a 25hp increase.

Can I load my SOTF File even if my Switch isn't installed?

Yes, however, it will automatically stay at the level one power rating. Once you get the switch installed, you will be able to take advantage of the other power levels, no return necessary.

Which tune gives you the best fuel mileage?

Every truck is different, however, in our experience, we usually find that the hotter the tune, the better fuel mileage you can get out of the truck (as long as you have good self-control and can keep your foot out of the throttle!).

Which tune is a smoke tune?

We do not offer smoke tunes. However, an LBF (Low Boost Fuelling) tune will provide more fuel in the lower rpm range, this helps the spool up of larger and non-vgt turbochargers, which can result in a smokier tune.

What do HISS and RMBL stand for?

Hiss will be a whistle tune. The RMBL tune will slightly open your vein position, this will prevent having that whistle noise at idle.

There are multiple tune versions available, which one should I select?

When selecting a new tune, or loading your very first one, if there are multiple versions available, we recommend starting with the most recent version.

i.e: For V7 or V7.2

V7.2 will be more recent.

Do I need a tune update if I add an intake?

Not necessary, but we will need to update tune files for most turbo or injector upgrades.

Do I need an update when I remove my egr?

If you are currently running Emissions Off Tuning, no. With Emissions Off/Delete tunes, the new programming will automatically close the existing EGR valve to prevent any gasses from being recirculated. So you are technically already running Delete Tunes.

If you are currently running Emissions On Tuning, you will need to update your tune file.

My custom tune on my sct device will only load halfway and fails, what should I do?

Please contact SCT directly, let them know you are trying to load a custom file, and they will build you a recovery file.

Their Toll Free Number is 1-866-637-1672.

EFI or EZ-Lynk, which is better?

The tuning on these platforms is essentially the same, the Device platforms are just different and have their own pro’s or con’s. So it really boils down to personal preference and what you want to get out of the Device.

My EZ-Lynk came with an extra cable, what do I do with it?

Absolutely nothing! You used to have to plug this cable in underneath the hood. However, EZ-Lynk has since updated the software and now it is no longer required. If you own a 2018+ Cummins, you would require a secondary Patch Cable  which is sold separately.

My EZ-Lynk Tune is stuck at 1% or 99%, what should I do?

The best solution for this is to unplug the unit, connect to an internet source to fetch the profile you are trying to install, plug the unit back in, and attempt the installation again. If the problem persists, please reach out directly to EZ-Lynk for further assistance. Click here to contact EZ-Lynk.

Where can I find the EC & SN numbers?

These numbers can be found on the Driver's side of the truck to the left of the pitman arm on the side of the motor. Please click the links below to view a video of the location.

I just installed TCM tuning and am now experiencing hard shifts, is that normal?

It is normal to experience a few hard shifts and funny shifting patterns for the first 200km after installing the tunes, this is just the time it takes for the transmission to complete the relearn process.

It is especially normal for this jerk to occur when shifting into reverse, because when you put it in reverse, your line pressure is doubled.

During the relearn process, we recommend that you drive in stop-and-go traffic if possible, and also have conservative throttle input.
If the odd shifting patterns ever persisted, we recommend that you try re-flashing the tunes onto the truck so it can restart the relearn process. However, if after that second relearn process it was still not to your satisfaction, we could always reach out to the tuning company and request a tune revision for the TCM tuning.
