Description

Note: Will NOT fit Cab & Chassis Models. If you have a C&C truck, please click here.

The 2013-2018 Cummins Gen 2 Monster-Ram Intake boosts your truck’s airflow by 122%, delivering more power right from startup. Unlike others, it includes a fuel line relocation kit so nothing blocks the airflow. More air, more power, no compromises.

Now Dual Heat Capable! The Monster-Ram still comes standard with the Banks 750-watt coil heater, but now you can add a second heater for up to 1500 watts of cold-start power, all without sacrificing airflow.

Part Number: 42798

Features

  • Raises boost without increasing turbine drive pressure
  • Includes High-Flow Heater And Billet Intake Plate
  • Eliminates the risk of engine failure due to parts loosening and falling into the engine while maintaining OEM-like cold-weather engine start performance.
  • Banks-exclusive coil heater sits vertically inside the Monster-Ram without hindering airflow. This allows the factory grid heater to be replaced with the Banks High-Flow Billet Plate.
  • Larger and less restrictive than stock intake
  • Improves flow of oxygen-rich air into cylinders
  • Quicker throttle response
  • Optimizes air pressure and distribution
  • Outflows stock over 122%
  • 3-3/8" inlet
  • Four 1/8" NPT ports
  • Accommodates stock mounting points
  • Includes proprietary fuel line and all necessary hardware
  • Red powder-coated, Black or Raw finish

Installation

Notes

  • If you're interested in a red ram air intake and want a matching block off plate and throttle valve upgrade, Banks Bengal Red Powdercoat option is a direct match.
  • All emission systems are retained, maintaining 50-state compliance and a CARB-EO.

Additional Info

Protection

  • Due to heat, vibration, and time, a nut and stud from the factory heater grid have been documented to come loose and fall into the intake manifold. Once this happens, it will roll downhill into cylinder #6, causing a catastrophic failure that requires a complete engine rebuild or replacement from bent valves, damaged pistons, and head.

Stock Heater Chokes Performance

The stock heater assembly is an airflow roadblock and becomes a magnet for soot and carbon buildup.

For peak performance, the Monster-Ram includes a custom-machined high-flow billet intake plate. This plate is machined to the optimum thickness and features an oversized inlet CNC port-matched to the Monster-Ram for zero restriction and maximum air density.

Banks engineers designed an all-new heating solution for the Monster-Ram that offers minimal airflow disruption. This eliminates the risk of engine failure due to parts loosening and falling into the engine while maintaining OEM like cold weather engine start performance.

Questions and Answers

Don't see your question? Ask us anything about this product.

  • Is the gen 2 monster ram red called bengal red? Looking to get a EGR cover plate at same time I order one but want them the same colour. Thanks for the help!

Our Bengal Red is the powder coat option you'll want to pick on the EGR plate!

  • Hi, in your experience, is the single heater adequate for interior of BC winters or would you recommend two heaters?

If you're in Northern BC, go with the 2 heaters - if you're in the interior or on the coast, the single heater is proficient. Anywhere that is -30 or more would require a dual heater for optimal performance.

  • Will this increase my hp, torque or fuel mileage?

No, it will not noticeably increase your horsepower, torque, or fuel mileage.

  • I also ordered a another heater coil with mine, did I need to? I wanted two

If you want two, you will have to order a second. The monster-ram its self only comes with one

  • Does this work with a 2018 6.7 that is still completely bone stock, no need for tuners or anything? I can just bolt up and go?

    Just bolt up and go!

  • Will it work on a stock 2014 Cummins?

    Yes!

  • Does this kit come with the block off plate for the egr or do I have to buy it separately?

    These are emissions compliant.

Absolutely! Unless you have a Cab & Chassis 2017 Cummins, then you'll need THIS.

  • #1 fuel line says it is single use, can this fuel line be purchased separately if removal is required again for some reason? Is a tune required after this system is installed?

We can source this if needed! No tuning required, drop it in and let the truck breathe that extra air!

  • Can this go on a fully deleted truck?

    Absolutely!

  • 42798 Bank monster intake - Is it emissions compliant ?

    Yes!

  • Will this fit my stock boost tubes ?

    You bet!

  • does this still do like a grid heater or its a grid heater delete

It deletes the grid heater bolt problem and supplies a new high-flow heater - but you want need a custom tune after installing.

  • Is this the ONLY aftermarket option to replace the grid heater (and solve the bolt problem) without removing pollution control systems? Would you recommend?

To eliminate the bolt problem it would be cheapest to grab this Killer Grid Heater Upgrade Kit, which solves the bolt problem. It's also fully emissions-compliant and easy to install with no modifications or tuning required.

  • Will this kit work with an emissions removed truck?

    Yes.

  • Is this 2013-2018 Cummins Gen 2 Ram Air Intake System (42798) ,,the right one for my 2016 dodge ram 3500 hd

    Correct!

The directions are a little off putting I should have researched the install ahead of time and gone that route. Guys are doing it without removing the fuel rail. All in all great product though I’ve experienced improved fuel economy and throttle response after week one!

Love the product. Easy to install. Banks did a great job. Not a mechanic. Installed myself. Notice a little power difference. And a little better on fuel. Took about 4hrs to install start to finish. Had it in my truck for about 2 weeks now. Love it!! Would recommend to anyone who would like to replace the grid heater problem in their 6.7. Thanks dirty diesel for the purchase. I’ll be back for upgrades as I build up my truck.

First off, Hats off to DDC, Ordered through the website, Had some questions, I called and got through to a human! Quickly! They answered all my questions and were great! I've been on the fence doing this upgrade due to all the online back and forth about the Banks single coil not putting out enough heat, well this kit is the Second Gen which enables you to put two coils in for 1500watts of power. I live in Alberta where it get minus 30 Celsius weeks at a time. The second coil was backordered but its on its way. We'll see how this works! Plus peace of mind, no more killer bolt and restrictive grid heater. I am by no means a mechanic and was back on forth on if I should do this myself or have a reputable shop install. Said F@#$ it and went for it. I followed the Banks video of the install from their website and it went really smooth. The only thing that is tricky is the number 6 Fuel line at the very back. I'm a short guy so I found it hard to get the proper leverage to even loosen the fuel line, then re-tourqe it. But all in all it wasn't that bad, glad I did it. Hope this helps someone, and Big Thanks again to Dirty Diesel Customs!!

Fantastic product and very happy to pick it up on sale. Been watching it for a while and when it went on sale I had to purchase it. Took me about 13 hours to install. I had all the tools on the list but a few extra things ended up being nice to have like scraper, throttle body cleaner and a few misc items.

Install went well the 6th injector was of course the hardest part. Using a 19mm crows foot with the shortest extension actually worked great, the ratchet will fit up behind the mount for lifting the engine making it easier to tighten/ loosen. Glad to have the grid heater engine killer off the truck, banks install video was perfect and so was the fit.

Amazing product. Would 100% recommend to anyone with a 6.7. Can instantly hear the difference and can feel it a slight bit even with stock boost tubes. Was not too bad to install only a few tight spots to fit bolts and torque nuts but all in all was a smooth process and it is definitely worth the money.

Customer video review of 2013-2018 Cummins Gen 2 Monster-Ram Intake & Grid Heater Upgrade (42798)

The parts are super high quality and made a noticeable difference in performance, but even better is peace of mind eliminating the problematic grid heater bolt. DDC really helped out when one of the parts was missing out of the box ( box came that way from Banks) and DDC opened another box and overnight shipped me the missing parts. Couldn’t be happier.

Installed the Monster Ram from Banks on my 2017, after discovering that my grid heater bolt was almost melted through. Install wasn't to bad, took around 4 hours. Awesome performance part for the diesel. Dirty Diesel was great to deal with, ordering was easy and shipping was fast. Thanks!!

2013-2018 Cummins Gen 2 Monster-Ram Intake & Grid Heater Upgrade (42798)

Monster ram fit as described. Only hard part was front vent tube is almost kinked. About 6 hours start to finish with extra care taken on the cleaning. Can definitely tell its getting more air. Installed boost tubes and cold air intake at the same time. All parts combined together really allows the turbo to spool. Thanks to Dirty Diesel customs. Shipping was great as well.

2013-2018 Cummins Gen 2 Monster-Ram Intake & Grid Heater Upgrade (42798)

Parts looked well built, Banks install instructions were good, the 6mm Allen extension is soft and will strip out so get a good quality socket instead. I would recommend the extra dual heater kit to give you 3000W (4 heater coils) of heat if you are in areas colder than -15C for easy starting though.
