Why Pacbrake added a bump stop to their bags?
Peace of mind. Customers want a bump stop to prevent bottoming out from loss of air bag pressure, an extremely rare event that could damage the air bags or potentially the frame of the truck. Think of it as an "insurance policy" against bottoming out.
An additional benefit is that you can run these air bags at 0 psi when unloaded for superior ride comfort.
Are bump stops necessary?
No! For those that require max travel in their air bags, to raise and lower their rear end to pickup trailers or boats, or for those that take their trucks off-roading, air bags without bump stops are recommended. Consider the HP10337 ALPHA HD air bag.
