I’ve been looking at changing my hall joints in my 2010 ram 3500. It has 300kms but I’m not sure when they were changed out last. How do I know if I need an oversized ball joint before I take it apart?
You'll need to assess the condition of the knuckle's ball joint receptacles. A visual inspection can help, or if you see "K7467" stamped on the lower ball joint, it indicates standard size for 2003-2013 Cummins. You can measure the diameter of the knuckle's ball joint holes as well. You can always jack the front end up, and see if you notice significant ball joint play when rocking the tire back and forth. If there's lots of play it's possible the knuckle is worn out and oversized ball joints may be necessary.
