1994-2002 Cummins Killer Dowel Pin Premium Repair Kit (242B01)

The 242B01 is the Premium version of Industrial Injection's Killer Dowel Pin repair kit, built for owners who are already pulling the timing cover and want to address every wear item at once. In addition to the standard KDP retention components, it includes a new front crank seal and front cover gasket — the two parts that you have to disturb to do the KDP fix anyway, and both common failure points on high-mileage 12V and early 24V Cummins.

The Killer Dowel Pin failure mode is one of the most well-known catastrophic failures on the 1989-2002 5.9L Cummins — the factory dowel pin behind the timing cover vibrates loose over time, and when it drops into the timing gears it can grenade the engine. The retention tab in this kit catches and ties down the pin permanently, eliminating the failure mode.

This is the kit to buy if you're touching the timing cover for any reason — front crank seal, harmonic balancer, water pump service, gasket leak. The added front crank seal + cover gasket cost almost nothing extra and saves a future trip back into the front of the engine.

• Install requires removing the timing cover, harmonic balancer, and water pump. Plan a full afternoon in the shop; allow extra time if also doing a water pump replacement.
