Clean the freeze plug bore thoroughly using a wire brush or emery cloth to remove all rust and scale. Add a small chamfer to the bore edge to allow the O-ring to compress properly. Lube both the O-ring and the bore with motor oil.
Install the plate by hand only; no hammer or tools needed. If it doesn’t go in smoothly with hand pressure, double-check your prep. Damaging the O-ring can lead to a poor seal.
