Description
Description
Clevite H-series coated rod bearing set for 1989-2002 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 trucks running the 5.9L Cummins (12V and 24V). Originally developed for NASCAR-type race engines, equally well-suited to any high-output diesel build where bearing survival during cold starts matters.
The H-series base bearings have hardened steel backs with thin overlay, medium eccentricity, and high crush. Enlarged chamfers give the bearing more clearance for crankshaft fillets. No flash plating — the bearing seats faster and more uniformly.
The coating is the real reason most diesel builders pick these over plain bearings. A dry-film lubricant layer sits between the bearing surface and the crank journal, which protects the bearing during the brief window after startup when the oil pump hasn't pressurized the bearings yet. Cold starts and oil starvation events do the most damage to bearings — the coating is what carries the load during those events. The coating also has moly and oil-retention additives that hold film thickness under sustained load.
