1989-2002 Cummins HX Series Rod Bearing (CB-1413HX)

The CB-1413HX is a Clevite HX-series coated connecting rod bearing for the 1989-2002 5.9L 12V and 24V Cummins. The HX coating's biggest benefit is cold-start protection — when an engine sits, oil drains back to the pan, and the first few seconds of cranking happen with cold, thick oil that hasn't fully circulated to the rod bearings yet. That's when 90% of bearing wear happens. The dry-film lubricant coating on these bearings acts as a barrier between the bearing face and the crank journal until oil pressure builds, dramatically extending bearing life on trucks that see frequent cold starts.

The coating also reduces overall friction, increases bearing and journal life, and contains moly compounds that retain oil rather than repel it. The HX series adds .001" extra clearance over the standard H series, which matches what most performance and high-mileage Cummins builds want.
