It stays closed until transmission fluid reaches roughly 210°F, and even wide open its small passage restricts flow and limits the cooler. The PPE Full-Flow Transmission Coolant Valve removes that restriction and feeds the cooler at all times, lowering transmission temperatures while towing, hauling, off-roading, or cruising the highway.
